Non-Profits and Pinterest

Should your nonprofit be on Pinterest? Most likely, YES! Can you tell people about your organization through amazing photos? Yes? Then, create a Pinterest account!

Pinterest is a search engine showing results with photos and graphics. It began in 2010 and the number of users has grown every year. There are 70 million users in the United States and over 80% of the users are women. However, men account for 40% of new signups.

The first step in using Pinterest is to create a business account. Easy to do. Having a business account will give you access to analytics that will allow you to see how well Pinterest is working for your organization.

The next step is to create boards that are applicable to your nonprofit and the boards should reflect the value and mission. The boards and pins will demonstrate the personality of the nonprofit.

The visuals you use must pack a punch. You will only have a few seconds to make an impact and have someone click on your pin. You ultimately want them to click through to your website and learn about you. You want them to join your newsletter list and even make a donation.

Consider pinning quotes that are related to your mission... Pinterest users like to re-pin inspirational quotes.

Infographics are another great tool to use on Pinterest. It is a quick and informational way of getting your message delivered. Pinterest can be a marketing miracle if used properly.

Pinterest offers one of the best values for advertisement. FREE! You can pin original content that has the potential to be circulated for months, if not years. That can drive a lot of traffic to your website.

If you want to try your hand at promoted pins (paid ads), you also have the opportunity for the pin to be re-pinned well after the promotional period has ended.

If a Pinterest user sees a pin they feel is something a friend or family member would like, Pinterest has the ability to send the pin to that person. This could mean another follower for you or another donation! Perhaps even another volunteer.

Some of the boards to consider would be a board that allows people to support your organization by buying logo products. Another board can feature your major sponsors, boards to tell the stories of people or animals that you have helped. Other boards can show the nonprofit’s history, highlights of previous events or creative fundraising.

To be successful on Pinterest, you will also want to follow like organizations are re-pin applicable content. Follow and be followed. Re-pin and get more re-pins.

Pinterest can benefit your organization and I can help you with that. What pin wishes do you have?
